This fundraiser, which will run through Valentine's Day, makes paper hearts available for purchase at participating retailers throughout the Bolivar area with 100 percent of the profits going to help the Haitian people.
A red heart represents a $5 donation and a pink heart represents a $1 donation. Community members are also welcomed to make donations for "Hearts for Haiti" directly to:
SBU Student Government Association
1600 University Avenue
Bolivar, MO 65613.
"Our hearts break as we see the images of the people in Haiti with such great need, and our instant reaction is to wonder, 'What can I do to help?' This is a very small way for people to help; a dollar or two extra when checking out at a store is something we can all afford to contribute," said Freshman Class President Jordan Taylor, organizer of Hearts for Haiti.
Proceeds from "Hearts for Haiti" will go to Lifeline Christian Mission. Lifeline is an established mission that operates in Grand Guave, Haiti, and currently provides tent housing, food, and medical care to over 1,000 Haitians.
A representative from Lifeline said that financial support was a necessity as they work to help restore some degree of normalcy to the people of Haiti. More information on Lifeline Christian Mission is available at www.lifeline.org.
