SBU held the Lions to a 26 percent shooting average in the second half and 0 of 8 from the three-point zone. The Lady Bearcats also forced 16 turnovers out of Missouri Southern for the entire game. That great and powerful defense sparked the Bearcats offense. To keep the ball rolling for SBU was two clutch threes by Rachel Graves and Chasity Prince. Overall, the Bearcats shot 43 percent from the field in the second half.
Senior Graves led the Bearcats to an exciting win with a round up of a total of 13 points. She also assisted two teammates, Prince and Whitney Malone, who added ten points each. Graves and Courtney Heady both had five assists. Missouri Southern leading scorer was Erin Rice with 13 points.
"In a 'tale of two halves,' we showed intensity and character by getting a majority of the loose balls. Our confidence was better in the second half offensively and defensively which led to a unified effort," Coach Carter said.
Southwest Baptist is currently 4-15 overall and 2-10 in the conference. They will travel to Pittsburg State to take on the Gorillas, who are currently holding the number three spot in the conference, at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
