The Southwest Baptist University Hall of Fame started back in 1982 and remained active until the mid '90s. Last year in 2009, SBU decided to take charge of the Hall of Fame and start it up once more. Coach Bryant recalls, " They just wanted to have one big night of people being inducted into the Hall of Fame and also have a way for the seniors to be recognized."
It is a great honor and privilege to be inducted into the Hall of Fame; four very dignified and noble people are being initiated this year: Charlie Lane, Sherri McVay, Roy Fields, and Ernest Hall. Charlie Lane was on the Men's Tennis team and was a four- time participant at Nationals. He was also the first All-American since SBU became a four-year college. When asked about Charlie, Coach Bryant had nothing but positive things to say, "Outstanding player, outstanding student," said Bryant. "Totally prepared. Charlie left nothing to chance and has since displayed the same qualities later in life. I learned more from Charlie than he ever learned from me."
Sherri McVay was on the track and field team and was a big time high jumper and holds two records. She is the second female to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Roy Fields was a power forward for SBU Basketball and led the team to many victories. He was an All-American and known as SBU's "Mr. Everything." Ernest Hall, nicknamed "Mudo", played for the Men's basketball team as a point guard and led the team to Nationals twice; where they finished in the elite 8 both times.
The Hall of Fame banquet is not only a special night for the inductees but also a very special night for the seniors. Seventy-one seniors will be recognized throughout the evening. Out of all of the outstanding seniors, two will be rewarded the Rex Brown Award. The award is very distinguished and given to only one female senior and one male senior. The award goes beyond the athlete's performance on the field or court. It also acknowledges the athlete's character, academics, and overall individuality.
To add to all of the festivities of the night, the unveiling of a brand new Hall of Fame site in the Wellness Center will take place. Not only will there be pictures and trophies, but there will also be an interactive computer terminal. At this terminal anyone can type in any Hall of Famer's name and get the full history and plenty of pictures of that inductee.
Coach John Bryant was recently inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame this past Sunday. In addition, Coach Bryant will also be honored in front of all of his friends and family here at the SBU Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame will take place this Saturday evening February 6, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

I think they should induct Charlie Hendrickson. One of the best tennis players that SBU has ever seen. Great article though!
