Southwest Baptist University high jumper, sophomore Kyle Grant, was named MIAA men's field athlete of the week for the week ending April 26.
Grant, a 6 foot 3 sophomore from Martin Town, Bahamas, automatically qualified for nationals in the high jump with his victory at the Missouri Southern Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational Friday on April 24.
He improved his season best by 2.75 inches with his winning leap of 6 feet, 11.5 inches. The jump was three inches above his nearest competitor. The jump was also a new school record.
Grant is a graduate of Eight Mile Rock High School, and transferred to SBU from Fort Scott, Kan. Community College at the beginning of this semester. Grant will be making his first NCAA D-II national track meet appearance next weekend.
Grant is recently coming off an all-conference finish at the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Joplin.
Grant will be accompanying several other track athletes at the national meet, but the list of those qualifying will not be finalized until sometime later this week.
