Southwest Baptist University had its annual Turnover Chapel Monday as current members of Student Government Association gave authority to the new members of SGA.
Chapel started with History professor Dr. James Smith receiving a pie in the face from Taylor Katz.
Katz had entered a drawing to "pie" Smith after making a donation to Relay for Life. His name was drawn by Student Activities junior Mally Ulm to kick off the ceremonies.
SGA took over after Smith got cleaned up. Junior Becca Jarred read results of the 2009 Student Survey issued earlier in the semester.
Sophomore Jordan Hart then gave out two awards to distinguished leaders on campus.
"We think they represent our campus very well. I'd like to present the faculty award to Bing Bayer," said Hart.
Kurt Caddy was then presented with the Staff of the Year Award.
Student Body President Jared Kathcart then took the stage and gave a farewell speech.
"SBU needs to be woken up," he said. "That's not a problem, that's potential."
Junior Becca Koe, SBU's new Student Body President, took the stage and picked up right where Kathcart left off.
"There is a lot of potential," Koe said. "If you have an issue bring it to us, if you have an idea bring it to us. We can help you through it."
The new SGA student body officers were then officially introduced.
Koe is the new Student Body President, Becca Jarred is Student Body Vice President, sophomore Evan Johnson is Secretary, Hart is Treasurer, freshman Brittney Mifflin is Major Events Chair, sophomore Brad Aslin is Campus Activities Chair, senior Mallory Roth is Integration of Faith and Culture Chair, and junior Joanna Bellis is the Publicity Chair.
Turnover Chapel ended with the announcement of Mr. and Miss Southwest.
This year's winners were juniors Matt Rogers and Marita McCampbell.
