The Southwest Baptist University speech and debate team traveled to Arkansas for the John Brown University fall invitational.
The team placed first in debate sweeps, second in individual events and won the tournament overall.
The team also received the Pi Kappa Delta award, which is given to a team belonging to the society.
After a four-hour drive on Friday, the team debated six rounds, which began at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
The final round of out-rounds did not start until 11 p.m.
After a few hours of rest, the team began their individual events on Sunday morning.
Due to the format of parliamentary debate, the teams were given different resolutions each round with 20 minutes of preparation.
The resolutions dealt with both national and international events.
For instance, one resolution handled the question of whether standardized testing should be used for entrance to college.
Other types of resolutions included fact and value.
For instance, it is resolved that "Sarah Palin is a bull dog with lipstick" and "the olive branch is better than the gun."
