Students preparing to take the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) will have five opportunities to sharpen their test-taking skills at prep sessions.
Each session will cover specific information about the GRE including vocabulary, math and essay strategies.
Although students may want to do additional prep work before taking the GRE, no preparation is necessary for these courses.
GRE Practice Test: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 in Gott 230
GRE Overview: 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26 in Gott 250 (Shelley Kilpatrick)
Writing Good Essays and Statistics: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 in Gott 250 (Todd Sukany) and (Shelley Kilpatrick)
Vocabulary Builders 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3 in Gott 250
Math Review 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 in Gott 250 (Allison Langford)
There is no set date for students to take the GRE.
Students can register for the exam online at a national testing center in Springfield.
Because of test availability, it is best to register several weeks in advance.
"For students trying to gain admission into graduate school, a strong GRE score is important, said senior Jan Day, Psi Chi program chair. "Besides preparing for the GRE individually, students interested in doing their best on the exam will find additional tips, test-taking strategies and subject-specific information that will help them prepare."
Although five sessions are offered, students can choose which ones to attend.
A one-time cost of $7 covers all five sessions and includes lunch for both Saturday sessions as well as the cost of materials.
For more information, students can look at the "GRE Prep Sessions" event on Facebook or email Dr. Shelley Kilpatrick, associate professor of psychology at skilpatrick@sbuniv.edu.
