Senior Audra Spain will perform her senor voice recital at 7 p.m. Thursday Sept. 18 in the Meyer Recital Hall in Casebolt Music Center. All Southwest Baptist University faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.
Spain, a music education major, will present selections by Agostino Steffani, Hugo Wolf, Faure and Seymour Barab.
The pieces from the "Songs of Perfect Propriety" by Barab are Spain's personal favorites.
"The poetry is by the raging feminist Dorothy Parker and it is wonderfully biting, sarcastic and witty," said Spain. "It is feisty and so very Audra."
Tammie Kelley will accompany Spain on piano. Sophomores Carrie Maloy and Laura Willis will assist by playing flute and oboe respectfully.
Spain has won many talent and coffee house events during her time at SBU.
Spain's career at SBU has been influenced greatly by Jeff Waters, professor and department chair, and Renee Waters, professor and coordinator of music theory.
"They are absolutely brilliant musicians and incredible teachers," said Spain. "They have this way of making you want to possess the key that unlock the complex language of music. Their passion for the content almost makes me want to go to graduate school- almost."
Although Spain is still deciding what she will do after she graduates, she knows her passion for music will never leave.
"My current plan is to live life and live it abundantly, wherever God sees fit to put me," said Spain.
