Major Transportation Executive Officer Andrew Love helps sophomore Rachel Sharples rappel down a tower at Missouri State University on Tuesday morning. Sharples enjoys gaining life-long skills in the ROTC program and plans to be a nurse in the Army after she graduates.

Southwest Baptist University students in the Army's Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) and students in military science classes went to Springfield yesterday for a rappelling exercise.
Students repelled off of the 25 and 50 ft. towers on the Missouri State University campus.
Upon meeting, the group was shuttled to MSU ROTC headquarters by Major Andrew Love. Love is assistant professor of military science at SBU and also leads the ROTC program on campus.
Three of the seven students who made to trip to Springfield are currently contracted to serve in the military upon graduating with a bachelor's degree.
Sophomore Rachel Sharples is contracted to be a nurse in the Army after graduating from SBU's nursing program.
"It's a lot of fun," said Sharples "It teaches life-long skills."
Students who go through the program are given opportunities for scholarships, monthly pay and the rank of second lieutenant upon entering active service.
Juniors and seniors interested in the program will go to MSU to take military classes, but freshmen and sophomores can take the required military classes at SBU.
