Several young ladies at Southwest Baptist University not only claim student as their profession, but they also work as businesswomen as consultants for the direct selling company Mary Kay, Inc.
Mary Kay, Inc. started in 1963 as a company where women could enjoy unlimited success.
The company sells skin care, cosmetics and fragrances for both men and women of all ages and skin needs. Being a direct selling company, Mary Kay sells these products directly to the consumer and consultants who spread the word about the company. Consultants sell products and host parties to demonstrate the products and spread the word.
Senior Lane Kucharski, juniors Brooke Dye and Krista Juliff joined the Mary Kay company with dreams of making extra money, starting a career and helping women feel more confident about themselves through their at-home business.
Kucharski has been a Mary Kay consultant since she turned 18 in 2004. She asked her mom, future Mary Kay Executive Senior Sales Director Denise Kucharski, to buy her the Mary Kay consultant starter kit as her birthday present.
Kucharski's mom has been a consultant for 26 years so Kucharski grew up with Mary Kay paying the bills.
"I came home from the hospital in a pink Cadillac," said Kucharski.
Due to her mom's success in the company, both of Kucharski's parents could stay at home with the family, something Kucharski wants for her own family someday and strives to achieve with her Mary Kay career.
The pink Cadillac Kucharski came home from the hospital in is one of the many rewards Mary Kay offers consultants.
When a Mary Kay director's team reaches a certain level of sales and maintains that level for four months, the director wins the use of the famed pink Cadillac for two years. If the team maintains that level of sales at the end of the two years, the director can upgrade to a newer model of the car.
Kucharski's mom has qualified for the pink Cadillac 12 times.
"I enjoy the girlfriends I make through the business," said Kucharksi.
