Southwest Baptist University will benefit from a donation made to the Missouri Colleges Fund (MCF) by Sprint, which has contributed $14,000 to underwrite Sprint Teacher Scholarships at each of the MCF%s member colleges and universities.
Scholarships are awarded by the member schools on the basis of financial need to students pursuing teaching careers.
-Southwest Baptist University is very grateful for this gift from the Sprint Foundation,' President Dr. C. Pat Taylor said. -The contribution recognizes the importance of teacher education and the significant impact that an educated workforce has on Missouri%s economy.'
The contribution will underwrite a $1,000 Sprint Teacher Scholarship at each of the 13 member schools: Avila Unversity, Central Methodist University, Culver-Stockton College, Drury University, Evangel University, Fontbonne University, Maryville University, Missouri Baptist University, Park University, Southwest Baptist University, Westminster College, William Jewell College and William Woods University.
MCF member schools are independent baccalaureate degree-granting liberal arts and comprehensive colleges and universities in the state of Missouri, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Their income is derived primarily from private sources.
MCF was incorporated in 1952 as a partnership of private enterprise and the member independent colleges and universities in the Show-Me State. The MCF is a tax-exempt corporation; therefore, all contributions to the MCF are tax-deductible up to the limits prescribed by law.
The MCF is affiliated with the Foundation for Independent Higher Education which is a national partner in a network of member state and regional associations that represent more than 650 private colleges and universities.
