SBU announces newcomer awards for faculty and staff

Southwest Baptist University recently announced its annual Newcomer Award winners for faculty and staff.
Greg Stewart was the staff recipient and Dr. Robert Klostermeyer was presented the faculty award.
Klostermeyer serves SBU as chairman of the department of history and political science and as an assistant professor of political science. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Florida and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida%s College of Law.
Klostermeyer%s research interests include citizenship awareness and responsibilities acquired during undergraduate education and post-baccalaureate legal education of Christian students, protection of constitutional and religious freedoms in public education.
After spending several years as an administrator and teacher in secular higher education, Klostermeyer came to SBU in fall 2005.
-Higher education at SBU is about relationships - relationships between faculty and student, creating opportunities to promote student to student learning relationships and ultimately one%s spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ,' Klostermeyer said. -While many schools provide opportunities to develop the academic interaction between individuals, SBU%s environment promotes and fosters academic relationships through an awareness and commitment to God%s love to create richer relationships that are critical for students at institutions of higher education. SBU%s students grow personally, academically and spiritually because of these special relationships.'
Stewart, an SBU alumnus from the class of 1993, is manager of credit and collections. Stewart began in the fall of 2005 after a multi-faceted career as a pastor, daycare director and children%s photographer. Prior to becoming a pastor, Stewart said he had been pursuing a career as a bill collector.
Stewart had also worked in the credit and collections department while a student at SBU.
-I still see myself in the ministry in my new position here,' Stewart said. -I love students and the mission of this university. My work with students and their finances is ministry. I tell them, iDon%t worry. Be concerned.%'
The Newcomer awards were presented by SBU President Dr. C. Pat Taylor during the university%s formal convocation, which also included an address by Dr. John Wheeler, professor of education and the 2006 Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher Award recipient.
