Most students at Southwest Baptist University know how important it is to have use of the Internet for tasks such as fulfilling homework assignments, checking grades and even in some instances turning in projects. For a large number of the ladies residing in Leslie and Beasley Halls, academic life had been a little more stressful when the Internet was a requirement for certain assignments, due to the fact that the ladies have had to do without for some time.

Most students living in Leslie Hall started the term with Internet connections, but lost them after a few weeks. At first, the loss of service was only about once a week for 24 hours. Soon, however, that blackout time increased to last over a week. The problem was addressed numerous times, and finally remedied for most.

Beasley dwellers, however, have still not completely gained full internet capabilities. In some rooms one occupant may be able to surf the net, while the other still receives the "server down" page. Action is beginning to take place in order to fix the nuisance.

Dean of Students Rob Harris said, "I believe the main issue, is that the students were supposed to have registered their computers with the Computer Services Department, and many have not yet done so."

Other hindrances to the obstacle include the age of the buildings. Beasley and Leslie Halls were not created to have internet connections. After the addition of the wiring for cable and internet connections, the technological advances of society have not always reflected the advancement of the wiring and technological equipment.

With many more students exercising the ability to keep and maintain their own computers, the system is hard pressed to keep up, leaving some in the dark ages of technological pursuit.
