After trailing by 17 points in the early stages of the second half, Rachel Graves and the SBU Bearcats rallied to close the gap but came up short, falling 77-68 to the #13 Washburn Lady Blues. Graves, held scoreless in the first half, flipped the switch in the second half with 20 points.
Five school records and three NCAA provisional marks highlighted the SBU track and field squad's efforts this weekend at the Iowa State Classic. The DMR team of Shawn Etzenhouser, Frank Grant, Nathaniel Rogers and Jeremy Glassmaker ran 10:00.19 to take sixth and provisionally qualify for NCAA championships.
Last week of February 8, Ryan Dougherty was named the MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week. This is the first time that Dougherty has received this esteemed award. He is the second player on the Bearcats team to earn this prestigious award. The only other player to achieve this great stunt for Southwest Baptist is Matt Rogers, who acquired it three times.
Southwest Baptist Men's Tennis started off their season less than sensational this past Thursday, losing to Seminole State 1-8 in an Springfield indoor match. Though the score does not reflect it, the match was actually close. The night started off bleak with all three doubles teams losing.
USC sports are dirty, at least that is the general consensus around the college sports world. In a matter of weeks, the whole world will know for sure. On Feb. 19, the NCAA will meet to talk about what was discovered during the four-year investigation of Southern Cal.
Courtney Heady, daughter of Randy and Linda, is a very important asset to the Women's Basketball program. Heady is a 5'7 junior guard, averaging 7.6 points for SBU. Also last year she led the MIAA in three-point field goals percentage, 43.6 percent. Along with great three pointers, Heady shot 80.
SBU softball has got off to a slow start this season. Their first four games in Arkadelphia, Ark. have all ended in despair. In their first game of the Ouachita Baptist Classic against Henderson State the Lady Bearcats fell in a gruesome 1-10 loss. BreAnn Proctor was the only one to cross home plate.
