missions Week commences

Southwest Baptist University's Missions and Ministry Center kicked off it's 26th year of missions Wednesday, Sept. 13. Several mission opportunities for the 2007 winter, spring and summer breaks were announced at Chapel on Wednesday. Teams will travel to Thailand, Houston, Philippines, Senegal and Guatemala during Jan-Term.

Waterman selected as a American Graphic Design winner

Senior Cassandra Waterman, has been selected as a winner in the 2006 Art Graphic Design Award competition by a nationwide panel of judges. The winning poster entry, "Little Shop of Horrors" was developed in Spring 2006 for Southwest Baptist University's theatre department through an advanced Department of Art Internship course instructed by Assistant Professor of Art John Gruber.

SBU participates in disaster excercise

Fire engines, police cars and an ambulance rushed to Southwest Baptist University Saturday, Sept. 9 as Pike Auditorium filled with smoke during a disaster exercise directed by the Polk County Emergency Management Services. The disaster exercise was held to meet guidelines set by the Department of Homeland Security which require an annual disaster exercise.

SBU professor recieves top manuscript award

Dr. Joshua Compton, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Communication at Southwest Baptist University, has been awarded the Central States Communication Association's Advisory Council Manuscript Award. This award recognizes the top manuscript published in a state journal among the Central States Communication Association's membership states.

Two SBU students recieve Jack J. Isgur Foundations scholarships

The Jack J. Isgur Foundation awarded scholarships to 13 students, including two students from Southwest Baptist University. The foundation was established by Jack Isgur, an attorney from Kansas City. The foundation provides grants for education majors in four-year colleges interested in teaching art, literature, poetry, music or dance in rural school districts.
